A dump truck spilled wet cement across all lanes of Interstate 495 during Wednesday morning’s commute, leaving drivers only able to pass the area via the breakdown lane, police said.

The spill on the southbound side of I-495, just south of Route 3 in Chelmsford, covered all three lanes of the highway, according to the Massachusetts State Police. Chicken Breading Machine

The three lanes were completely closed as workers cleaned up the wet cement. Troopers instead routed drivers past the spillage through the breakdown lane, the state police said. Drivers should expect delays, the state Department of Transportation said.

Multiple cars had driven through the spill, police added.
